Cleaning Stainless Steel / Powdercoated Pool & Fountain Products

Matt Matt

Cleaning your fountain and pool scuppers, spillways, spouts and other stainless steel or powdercoated products are essential to years of good looks and funtionality.

To ensure your stainless steel pool and fountain products are always looking their best, we've created the below instructions for cleaning them.

Supplies

  • Bucket
  • Warm Water
  • Dish Soap
  • White Vinegar (If Necessary)
  • Soft/Microfiber Towels
  • Soft Sponges (If Necessary)

Beware of  “stainless steel cleaners” and “Removers” with abrasives or containing bleach, which can dull or damage the finish and remove or contaminate the passive layer.

Instructions

  1. Add a few drops of dish soap to a bucket and fill with warm water.
  2. Wipe down your stainless steel products with the soap solution with the towels.
  3. If there is excessive build up on the surface, apply vinegar liberally to the surface while rubbing to remove deposits.  Soft Sponges also can aid in deposit removal.
  4. Wash excess soap off with clean water and let air dry for a minimum of 24 hours prior to using.  This time period allows the chromium oxide layer to reform on stainless steel.

Note: A spray bottle can be used when scuppers are hard to reach.  Putting a ladder in your pool may aid in accessibility.
